Star Trek: The Video Game Review | Game Rant

Game Rant: "The most promising mechanics are not fully realized and poorly implemented. And by the time players have reached them, theyll just be looking for a reason to stop playing. There was potential here, but from animation to story, level design to traversal, every aspect is designed to work well enough. Thats not enough to kill a good tie-in, but with a total absence of what or who makes Star Trek meaningful, theres no real point."

DHGF: Walking around with your tricorder out scanning things just felt right, and I wish the game had enabled you to use it more to escape by using science instead of your phaser. Like let me disable the gravity in a room Im trying to clear of enemies, or something like that. Instead the game takes the approach of guns blazing almost all of the time, and that just doesnt feel like Star Trek to me, again falling into the trap of Star Trek games everywhere. Play it and be entertained, but dont go in expecting peaceful negotiating, and dont expect smart AI either.

"Over the last week or so I've been dipping in and out of Digital Extremes Star Trek. Playing 20 minutes here, half an hour there. Usually I can sit through a game for at least an hour without getting fed up, but Star Trek changed that." - TGC
